Emely Rodriguez is a Poet, Educator and Creator. She received her Bachelor’s in English from Towson University and holds an MFA in Creative Writing & Publishing Arts from the University of Baltimore. Her work has been published in 45th Parallel, The Voices Project, Grub Street, and Welter.

“Much of my art is inspired by Fernando Llort’s work just as this piece is as well. I’ve always loved his murals or murals done in his style. I was in awe of his work on the entrance of the San Salvadoran cathedral, which is in part why I wanted to include a church like building. That and his depiction of churches remind me of those in my mother’s home city of San Miguel. Cielito works to depict all the wonderful symbols seen in this style of folk art; symbols I’ve come to love!”
